This week in mobility – 20th March 2015

March 20, 2015

The mobility news keeps rolling on, and with our own announcement of a new collaboration service we’ve been making the headlines as well as analysing them.

Advocates of mobility will have been pleased to see the news this week that the business case for flexible working is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Although the Public Sector appears to have some catching-up to do.

There were also some bird brained goings on thanks to Peregrine falcons nesting on Vodafone mobile phone masts, with network users being warned that they may receive poor signal. The fastest animal on Earth is slowing down the fastest growing mobility technology… humm.

Any conversation on mobility should include elements of sustainability, but O2 are really pushing green innovation with their new recycled smartphone made from… grass. Yes, you read that right -Grass from the one and only Twickenham stadium.

With a range of developments in the mobile payments industry recently, the latest announcement, this time from Facebook, reveals the social media giant’s vision for making money transfers on-the-move easier than ever. Integration into platforms people already use could make it a smooth step forward.  Did you also spot that TFL is now the fastest growing contactless merchant in UK?

Of course we couldn’t neglect to mention the budget, which saw a boost for mobility with free WiFi in libraries about to become a reality. An obvious opportunity when you think about it. We look forward to seeing how this will impact the nation’s use of those facilities.

How do you feel about this week news? Where else would you like to see public WiFi rolled out? Who will be next to innovate mobile payments? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below, or tweeting @Graham Franklin or @CiscoUKI.
